Marcus Eriksen, Ph.D
Executive Director
Marcus Eriksen is the Executive Director of LEAP LAB: Ventura County Science Center, located in Santa Paula, CA. The desire to build a science center goes back 3 decades to early expeditions excavating dinosaurs in the badlands of eastern Wyoming. His work in environmental science has led him to lead sailing voyages around the world to research ocean plastics. Leap Lab is the culmination of a lifetime of science, education and advocacy to solve real-world problems. In addition to his research publications, he’s authored books detailing adventures down rivers and across oceans. He now lives with his wife and daughter on their 15 acre farm.

Principal, Glen City Elementary School
Melissa brings over 15 years of nonprofit management experience, including roles at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History and the Girl Scouts of America. Her background spans classroom teaching, deep sea exploration with the Ocean Exploration Trust, and significant community involvement. She holds a BS in Biology and a teaching credential exemplifying her expertise and dedication.
With 20 years in public education, Dr. Varela's journey spans roles from teacher to K-8 administrator. Holding degrees in Spanish, teaching, and educational administration, his highlight was revising California's World Languages standards, advocating for Heritage Language Learners. A dedicated educator, Dr. Varela's career reflects a commitment to diverse linguistic and educational advancement.

Anna Cummins
Director
She has over 10 years of experience in environmental non-profit work, education, writing, and campaign development. She has worked in marine conservation, coastal watershed management, sustainability education, and high school ecology instruction. Anna received her undergraduate in History from Stanford University and her Master's in International Environmental Policy from the Monterey Institute for International Studies. In 2001, Anna received a fellowship from the Sustainable Communities Leadership Program to work with Santa Cruz-based non-profit Save Our Shores, coordinating bilingual outreach education and community relations.

At LEAP LAB, Justin applies his expertise as a digital and creative strategist, excelling in web design, graphic design, digital marketing, brand design, videography, and photography. His skills are instrumental in driving LEAP LAB's mission to deliver compelling digital narratives and strong visual identities, fostering impactful brand engagement and growth.
Jordan Howard, founder and president of ShftSpace, has a rich background advising CEOs, CMOs, politicians, and foundation officers. She's leveraging her expertise to impact narrative, art, education, venture, and real estate development, shaping her diverse legacy in these fields with her entrepreneurial spirit and innovative vision.
